Skoog learns a valuable lesson.

May 27

A week or so ago, I started to feel under the weather.  It all started with a fever…otherwise, I felt fine.  Instead of listening to my body and knowing all I know about slowing down, I plowed ahead with powerful workouts and long runs.  My body came to a screeching halt and by Tuesday I was bedridden with, what I’ll call, the flu of the century.

You see, I thought I could ‘sweat it out’.  I thought I was different than everyone else and that if I could just continue working and carrying on like nothing was wrong, I would get ahead of this thing and move on with my life.

I guess I learned a very valuable lesson:  even I’m not invincible.

So for those of you who have a slight throat itch, a minor fever, body aches or the sneezes, your body is actively telling you to stop.  Do not pass ‘go’, do not collect $200.  Go directly to bed.  Those are direct orders.

That 6 mile run wasn’t worth the pain I have had to endure this week, believe me!
