I'm ready.

My last real workout was three weeks ago. I cannot remember the last time I took this much time off physically, but it does feel good to “feel good” again.

My husband and I road tripped during the last week of August, ending in Las Vegas for 3 days. I forgot how terrible the air quality is there: no matter where we went, inside or out, our lungs were clogged with secondhand smoke. (I’m totally not kidding.) I really couldn’t wait to get back to NYC where smoking is pretty much illegal (thank you, Bloomberg).

Typically after a vacation, I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on work, but this time I felt lethargic, unenthused and out-of-sorts. On the third day back, I was so sick I swore I’d never be well again. This went on for an entire week, and gradually I got better, but have wanted my immune system to get back up before exercising again.

To kick things off, I biked to work today. The wind felt so good in Central Park and the adrenaline came rushing back as I competed with cabs in Times Square. I have re-hired my boxing trainer and signed up for 6 NYRR races before years’ end. Bring it.

I hear you. With the school year starting after a long, relaxing summer vacay, I had a tough time getting to the gym for the week of workshops and the first week of classes. Not only that, I suddenly discovered major pain in my sciatic nerve, radiating from my lower back down my butt and into my leg. It’s starting to feel better, but I don’t imagine I will be able to hit the gym for another week for fear of re-injuring myself. I will look back at this entry once I’m ready to kick-start my program again. Here’s to it.
