Say NO to Fitness Fads

Is your trainer/fitness teacher/coach certified? Can they back up the program you are on with scientific evidence? Or are they shooting in the dark and making the class “hard” for the sake of sweat? With all of these fad workouts springing up everywhere (and more on the horizon), it’s tough to weed out the fluff and tempting to try every single… read more

Candy Hearts No More

Brace yourself: I’m a recovering sugar addict. Well, mostly in the beginning of the year, but any unseasonal jelly bean would have sufficed. Going to CVS or Target after Christmas was a test of willpower that I failed miserably most of the time. After I got engaged, I desperately wanted to change my ways. But as Valentine’s Day approached, I felt… read more

Japanese Vegetable Beef Soup

Stanley and I spent the last week of January on the Pacific shores of Baja, Mexico. Since we started our vacation with a stomach virus (silver lining: washboard abs!), breakfast, lunch and dinner were cause for celebration, and indeed we did. Nightly, we visited a sushi bar that served the most amazing Japanese vegetable soup. I couldn’t get enough! Now… read more

A Birthday Letter

My sister is 3 years and 3 months older than me. We have just enough of an age gap that kept us from being best of playmates as children and as we entered our teen years, our arguments ended in hair pulls and loud shouting matches. She taught me fierce independence and how to hold my ground. We bonded at the piano. My sister is a gifted pianist who can plunk any tune, no… read more

Project Hannah: Week 3, Finals Sprain!

Ever feel like no matter what you do, your body’s just like, “Grrl. NO.” This is Hannah at the helm with my third weekly update on all things “Hannah Project” or lack thereof (see photo above and read on). I know I mentioned this before, but my NYC Ivy League life is, in a nutshell, insane. I’ve entered finals week and have… read more

Holding Judgment

One of my very best friends called me with a familiar dilemma:  her current boyfriend wants to “see other people” but remain in their relationship and would she mind? The answer at the outset seems obvious: dump ‘im. Not so fast, there, Skippy! As always, these issues are complicated, emotional and sticky. Many times, we enter relationships… read more

Project Hannah: Week 2

What’s up, y’all! It’s me, Hannah, at the helm with an update on my fitness journey. One of the biggest reasons I jumped aboard “Project Hannah” was to get a better handle my high-stress life. The last week or so hasn’t been particularly great since finals season and the dreaded Thanksgiving holiday were looming. I always… read more

Aah, Black Friday. Mass consumerism at it’s, ahem, best. I avoid it like, well, the “black plague.” But while you’re out and about (and I’m home hacking up a lung from this lingering flu bug) allow me to play armchair quarterback to your shopping habits. I say, why not shop with a fitness theme this year? Here are plenty of ideas… read more
